If there is one thing I envy from the European Union, it's their public infrastructure. I have heard a lot from people who live there and cars are a less efficient method of transport compared to public transportation. I thought this was really interesting as I feel in the US, things could not be further from the opposite. As I've stated, this is all "feeling" & I don't have data to back this up. This is a page on my thoughts not a scientific paper lol.
The modern world has a raging hard-on for convenience, this lead to over-reliance on electronics as the controls for various systems are easily automated. Car companies will ostentatiously use terms like "technology" or "smart" in order to trick people into believing the premise that by being more technological, it will somehow guarantee usefulness to consumers.
I remember an advertisement on the television from four weeks ago, it perfectly showcased the silliness. It was about a new electric vehicle & I'm not kidding, it consisted of heavily edited shots of the car driving with the only talking point being "pure electrifying fun".
What is the point of that sentence? were the producers into BDSM or something because I certainly doubt they were trying to gain sales with that type of wording, perhaps gain an erection? how about giving people a compelling list of reasons why they should purchase your forty thousand dollar vehicle.
I believe it used to be easier to fix cars as everything vital to driving was mechanical, think of people who were stuck as a result of bad electronics or false error codes they could do nothing about. Mechanical parts do not have this type of annoyance, it's easy to code restrictions in software, if there were in mechanical parts, you would be able to tell with ease.
There is also this which I think absolutely everyone should know. Mozilla is not perfect but I appreciate the disclosure from them. It's exactly why I dislike all modern electric and gas vehicles, you are practically fucked if you wish to operate in society without one.
I would preferably have a car that is very old which is fully mechanical & does not try to garner data though I don't doubt my interest in old vehicles in general does have an impact on this choice. Even then, the cost of fuel is rising & relying on carburetors will turn into a cash-buffet, not a card one though as I hate electronic payments.
Don't get me wrong I have nothing against electric vehicles as a concept, what I do have something against is the implementations of technologies being utilized by top manifacturers, providing mass-surveillance products which are required to function in society. Most people expect privacy by default and are not aware they don't have that.
Working on my own car would be fun, I know basic troubleshooting, the functioning of combustion engines & its parts, carburetors, differentials and more but I don't know everything, For example, transmissions. I've heard these can be torture, sign me up!
If the research I did for the gearing of my minibike is correct, I think I can deduce that transmissions are mechanisms meant to connect different gears together to create different gear ratios which lead to different torque / speed values. Hopefully this is correct because it's going in the car either way! lol
On a more personal note, I prefer to not have music playing, I like having the windows open & putting the heating to maximum, the thermal imbalance feels pleasant. I can also hear if there are odd noises coming from the vehicle as I've had this happen a few times.
